Eight men have been sentenced in Russia for participating in an 'organized criminal group' responsible for the October 2022 attack on the bridge connecting Crimea to Russia. The explosion, caused by a truck loaded with explosives, led to the partial collapse of several spans of the bridge and the death of five people, including the truck driver, who was unaware of his explosive cargo.
The Regional Military Court in Rostov announced the verdict after a trial held behind closed doors since February. The attack was later claimed by Ukraine, and Russian authorities have tightened security on the bridge, crucial for the transport of troops and equipment in annexed Crimea. Another attack, involving naval drones, damaged the bridge in July 2023.
