The Egyptian Supreme Media Regulatory Council decided on Wednesday to block access to the online video game Roblox, citing the need to protect children from content deemed inappropriate or violent.

This ban comes after requests from several senators, including Senator Walaa Hermes, who highlighted the risks of excessive use of the platform, such as anxiety and incitement to violence. Roblox has already been banned in other countries, such as Qatar, Iraq, and Turkey. The measure aligns with President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi's calls for stricter legislation regarding the protection of children against the risks associated with smartphone use.

Roblox Corporation stated that it is open to discussions with Egyptian authorities to resolve the issue and restore access. The platform, which allows users to create and share games, has nearly 150 million daily users, of which 40% are children under 13 years old. Criticism of the game for the lack of child protection has been frequent, but the company has recently implemented parental control measures, including an age verification system.
