A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred on Monday evening in the town of Sindirgi, located in the Balikesir province of western Turkey, announced the Turkish disaster management agency AFAD.
The Anadolu agency reports that the earthquake, which was felt in many provinces in the Marmara and Aegean regions, including Balikesir, Izmir, Bursa, Istanbul, Tekirdag, Kocaeli, and Sakarya, occurred at a depth of 5.99 kilometers.
At least 26 aftershocks occurred within an hour after the initial earthquake, according to Anadolu.
"Three buildings and a store - evacuated after the previous earthquake - collapsed. There were no casualties," announced Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on the private Turkish channel CNN Türk.
