The international airport in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan was attacked on Thursday with drones and missiles launched from Iran, according to an Azerbaijani government source. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry confirmed that one drone hit the airport terminal, while another fell near a school, injuring two civilians and causing a fire in the area. Azerbaijani authorities have called on Iran to provide clear explanations and to conduct an investigation into the incident, considering the attack a violation of international law.
The Iranian ambassador in Azerbaijan has been summoned to receive an official protest.
The incident has heightened tensions in the region. Video footage captured smoke rising from the airport and the intervention of firefighting teams.
