American President Donald Trump stated to The Telegraph that he is seriously considering withdrawing the United States from NATO, after it did not join his war against Iran.
The U.S. President called the alliance a "paper tiger," saying that America's withdrawal from the defense treaty is now "beyond any reconsideration."
"Oh, yes, I would say it is beyond any reconsideration," Trump said when asked if he would reconsider the U.S. membership in the alliance after the conflict.
"I have never been influenced by NATO. I always knew it was a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way," Trump added.
This is the strongest sign so far that the White House no longer considers Europe a reliable defense partner, following the rejection of Trump's request for allies to send warships to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
