Kirill Dmitriev, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is currently in the USA for meetings with members of President Donald Trump's administration, with the main subject being a possible peace agreement for Ukraine and economic cooperation between the USA and Russia. Sources cited by Reuters have confirmed the visit, but the Kremlin emphasized that this does not mean the resumption of negotiations for Ukraine.
Dmitriev's visit comes before the expiration of the 30-day waiver for the suspension of sanctions on Russian oil, which will be decided on April 11. Additionally, the Kremlin announced a 32-hour ceasefire for Orthodox Easter, which Ukraine has promised to respect.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is seeking a lasting peace and that negotiations are suspended due to events in the Middle East. Peskov emphasized that Russia does not want a simple ceasefire, but a proper peace agreement, which depends on the decisions of President Zelensky.
