A forest fire broke out on Thursday in the village of La Mierla, located about a hundred kilometers north of Madrid, destroying over 13,000 hectares of land and causing the evacuation of several hundred people.

Authorities in Castile-La Mancha have announced that the fire affects over 700 people, and firefighters, aided by aerial resources, are working intensively to limit the spread of the flames.

Although no casualties have been reported, the fire is considered "difficult" by the president of the region, Emiliano García-Page, occurring in the forested area of the Sierra Norte natural park, which is home to threatened species.

This comes alongside another fire that broke out near Zaragoza, which has burned approximately 15,000 hectares.
