A devastating fire broke out on the eighth floor of a ten-story building on August Vermeylen Boulevard in Antwerp, Belgium, killing several people and causing panic among the approximately 200 residents. Dense smoke quickly engulfed the upper levels of the building, and images from Flemish media captured the extent of the fire, with the building enveloped in a massive cloud of black smoke.

The Antwerp fire service mobilized numerous crews and high-rise ladders to rescue residents seeking refuge on balconies. Authorities activated the BE-Alert emergency system, providing instructions to nearby citizens to prevent inhalation of toxic gases.

The perimeter around the building has been secured, and traffic has been restricted to facilitate the intervention. The origin of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of this tragic incident. The community in Antwerp is deeply affected, and authorities promise updates as the investigation progresses.
