A fire broke out in the trauma center of the College and Medical Hospital SCB in Cuttack, Odisha, India, where ten patients were killed.

The fire, which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out around 02:30, and 11 hospital staff members suffered burns while trying to save the patients. Firefighters responded quickly, managing to control the fire and evacuate the patients safely to other wards. Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the government has ordered a judicial inquiry and will take action against those responsible. Authorities have also announced financial compensation for the families of the victims.

Fires in hospitals are common in India, often caused by electrical failures, and hospitals are vulnerable due to electrical equipment and patients who cannot be moved quickly.
