Strong earthquake of magnitude 4.7 near the city of Naples

On Friday, the Campi Flegrei area, near Naples, was shaken by a surface earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7, the most intense quake in the last four decades.

The provisional toll indicates 21 injured, of which 2 are in serious condition, and several buildings have partially collapsed. The Department of Civil Protection, coordinating with local authorities, has set up 185 beds for those affected. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Minister Nello Musumeci are involved in managing the crisis, and a new meeting has been scheduled for Saturday.

The seismic swarm continued throughout the night, with aftershocks felt, and many residents chose to stay outside their homes due to panic. In Pozzuoli, two uninhabited buildings collapsed, and 18 families were evacuated. Approximately 100,000 homes were left without power, and rail traffic was affected. Authorities are preparing measures to cope with the situation, while volcanologists warn of the uncertainty of seismic activity in the area.
