IcyAlert, a new system developed by researchers in Denmark and Belgium, uses artificial intelligence and advanced climate modeling to predict when the Arctic will be ice-free in summer. The tool aims to assess global climate impacts as melting sea ice accelerates Arctic warming. The first alerts will be available from 2028, and ice-free seas could become a reality in the 2030s.
