Two Democratic congressmen have urged President Donald Trump to preserve official conversations held with Grok, the chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s company, regarding the operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The request appears in a letter signed by Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia and published Thursday. The lawmakers are seeking confirmation of reports about Trump’s discussions with Grok, as well as a briefing on the use of artificial intelligence and the preservation of interaction histories through November 11.
Democrats are also asking for any conversations with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity to be preserved, arguing that they may constitute official documents of the U.S. government.
According to reports, in December 2025, Trump allegedly consulted Grok about how Venezuelans might react if Maduro were captured. The operation reportedly took place in January, without prior authorization from Congress, and the discussions with the chatbot allegedly occurred during a several-hour meeting with Elon Musk at the White House.
The congressmen say the public has the right to know how government decisions are made and whether Musk influenced U.S. policy through artificial intelligence.
