As part of its long-term energy strategy, the Czech Republic has decided to extend the lifespan of the four nuclear reactors at the Dukovany power plant. The Minister of Industry and Trade, Karel Havlicek, justified this measure by the anticipated increase in electricity consumption and production, emphasizing that nuclear energy is essential for ensuring a stable, safe, and competitive energy source.

Extending the lifespan of the reactors will require significant investments, according to the CEO of CEZ, Daniel Benes. The Dukovany power plant, which generates over 40% of the Czech Republic's energy, has four Soviet-designed reactors, and CEZ has signed contracts with the South Korean group KHNP for the construction of two new APR1000 reactors. Additionally, CEZ will collaborate with the French company Framatome for the development of next-generation nuclear fuel, aiming to diversify suppliers and reduce dependence on Russia.
