On Monday afternoon, Cuba's national electric grid collapsed, affecting approximately 10 million residents who were left without electricity, according to the network operator's announcement.

This nationwide power outage is being investigated by authorities, but Cuba has been facing energy issues for months, with outages sometimes lasting hours, but recently extending to entire days. The energy crisis is caused by the aging electric grid and the blockade imposed by the U.S., which has led to disruptions in fuel supply. Before Monday's incident, nearly two-thirds of the population did not have access to electricity.

The Trump administration intensified pressure on Cuba, labeling the Cuban government a threat and imposing tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba. Negotiations between the U.S. and Cuba began, but were conditioned on the resignation of President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
