Cuba has refused to allow the U.S. embassy in Havana to import diesel fuel for powering generators, according to a report by the Washington Post. The Cuban Foreign Ministry has labeled the embassy's request as 'unreasonable' and inaccessible for the Cuban people, in the context of a severe fuel shortage and widespread power outages. The island is facing a deep economic crisis caused by inefficient management, corruption, and a long-standing American embargo. Relations between the U.S. and Cuba have been tense since the 1959 revolution, and the situation has worsened under the Trump administration, which restricted Cuba's access to oil. The U.S. embassy has warned that it may have to reduce staff due to the blockade, with personnel already housed in shared spaces and trained to work from home to conserve energy.
