The Cuban government has announced a series of economic measures to continue operations in the context of the increasingly strict oil embargo imposed by the United States, which has affected supplies of oil from Venezuela. Deputy Prime Minister Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga stated that a four-day workweek will be implemented in the administration and state enterprises, telecommuting will be encouraged, and fuel sales will be restricted. Additionally, public transport services will be reduced, tourist facilities will be temporarily closed, and university programs will be shortened. These measures are intended to save fuel and energy while ensuring food and electricity production at the same time. The economic crisis in Cuba is compared to that of the 1990s when the collapse of the Soviet Union led to a severe recession. Currently, the island is facing frequent power outages, shortages of food and medicine, as well as a decrease in the number of tourists.
