Colombian cartels and rebel groups have begun sending volunteers to the front in Ukraine to learn advanced methods of drone usage, according to a report by the Financial Times. These Colombians, especially members of drug cartels, wish to acquire knowledge that could enhance their efficiency in operations in their country. It seems that some of them have already returned to Colombia with advanced skills, which could nullify the air superiority of the Colombian army.
Ukraine has become an international model in the use of drones, having a military branch dedicated exclusively to unmanned systems, called the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF), established in 2024. This structure integrates aerial drones, maritime vessels, and ground robots, aiming to increase efficiency on the front and reduce human casualties. Ukraine has also inspired other armies, including those from the US and EU, by introducing mixed units that combine different types of drones and autonomous vehicles.
