Democratic Republic of Congo's Health Minister Roger Kamba has announced an 'acute phase' of the cholera epidemic, with more than 33,000 cases reported since January 2025. The mortality rate is around 2% and the number of cases has already exceeded the 2024 total. 17 of the 26 provinces are affected, with the capital Kinshasa seeing around 130 new cases a week. The government has decided to open new treatment centers to provide free care to patients. The health situation is considered a 'critical crisis' with a resurgence of mpox cases.
