The mortality rate is around 2% and the number of cases has already exceeded the 2024 total. 17 of the 26 provinces are affected, with the capital Kinshasa seeing around 130 new cases a week. The government has decided to open new treatment centers to provide free care to patients. The health situation is considered a 'critical crisis' with a resurgence of mpox cases.
