China officially presented the aircraft carrier Fujian, the third in its fleet, during a ceremony in Sanya, attended by President Xi Jinping. Fujian is the first Chinese aircraft carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults, an advanced system also used by the USA, which allows the launch of aircraft with full payloads.
The ship, with a displacement of over 80,000 tons, was built entirely in China and represents a significant progress in the modernization of the Chinese naval forces, part of the plan to have six aircraft carriers by 2035. Analysts emphasize that Fujian marks the beginning of a new era in the Chinese navy, transitioning from coastal defense to open sea operations.
Additionally, the electromagnetic catapult system, although criticized in the USA for costs and reliability, offers increased operational efficiency, allowing for a large number of daily takeoffs and landings.
