The Chinese armed forces secretly trained about 200 Russian soldiers at the end of last year, and some of them have returned to the front in Ukraine, according to sources from European intelligence agencies. Although China claims to be neutral in the conflict, the training focused on the use of drones and other advanced military techniques.
The training agreement, signed in July 2025, stipulates that Russian soldiers will be trained in Beijing and Nanjing, while Chinese soldiers will participate in training in Russia. This direct involvement of China in the war in Ukraine suggests a closer relationship between the two countries, in the context of Beijing continuing to collaborate with Moscow despite international pressures.
The training included electronic warfare techniques and the use of drones, which are essential in the current conflict. Additionally, internal reports from the Russian military confirm that soldiers trained in China have been involved in combat operations in the occupied regions of Ukraine. This military collaboration between China and Russia is viewed with suspicion by European powers, which consider Russia a major threat to security.
