China will impose taxes on American ships arriving in its ports, in response to similar measures by the United States, starting from Tuesday.

The Chinese Ministry of Transport announced that, starting Tuesday, American ships will be subject to special fees of 400 yuan (56 dollars) per ton, with annual increases until 2028. This measure comes in response to the tariffs imposed by the US on Chinese ships. Analysts suggest that the impact of these tariffs will be smaller for China than those imposed by the US. This initiative takes place ahead of a meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, highlighting existing trade tensions.
