The Eurovision organizers have announced that Canada will debut in the competition in 2027, becoming the first new country to join since 2015, when Australia entered the contest. The decision came after a year marked by political tensions, with withdrawals of countries such as Ireland and Spain due to Israel's participation. Canada's participation was confirmed last week when CBC/Radio-Canada became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Canada can already claim a winner, Celine Dion, who represented Switzerland in 1988. Canadian competitors have also been present in the past, representing other countries. Canada will debut in the semifinals in 2027, which will take place in Bulgaria. Details about the candidacy selection will be provided by CBC/Radio-Canada later. Canada's participation underscores Eurovision's openness to non-European countries, alongside Israel and Australia. Additionally, the Eurovision director mentioned that he is open to the return of countries that have withdrawn.
