The redistricting battle is intensifying in California, where Democrats will submit a new electoral map to voters in November on Thursday. The change could generate five additional seats for the party in reaction to the map imposed by Republicans in Texas under Donald Trump. Gov. Gavin Newsom devised the strategy in response to Republican maneuvering, given that California uses an independent commission for such decisions, and changes require voter approval.
