The President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, announced the organization of early elections after the main parties refused to take on the mandate to form a government. The coalition government led by Prime Minister Rosen Jeliazkov resigned in December following protests against corruption and tax increases included in the 2026 budget. Radev offered the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms a final chance to form a government, but it refused, becoming the third party to do so in the same week.
