The President of the State Agency for Refugees (SAR) in Bulgaria, Ivan Ivanov, announced that the institution is ready to implement the requirements of the European Union Pact on Migration and Asylum, which came into force on Friday. The Pact introduces a new border procedure for Bulgaria's asylum system, which will allow for faster processing of international protection applications and direct returns at the external border. Ivanov emphasized that this pact, proposed by the European Commission in 2020, aims for long-term solutions for managing migration in the EU. SAR has developed a roadmap for implementing the new regulations, including standards for international protection. The Eurodac regulation will be expanded to ensure clear identification of migrants. SAR is collaborating with various national and European agencies to implement these requirements, in the context of the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), which aims to strengthen procedures at the external borders of the EU.
