Following a meeting in Kiev between the Bulgarian Minister of Education, Sergey Ignatov, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Oksen Lisovyi, important initiatives were outlined to preserve the cultural identity of Ukrainians in Bulgaria.

One of the proposals discussed is the establishment of a Ukrainian school, similar to the Bolgrad High School 'G. S. Rakovski', to ensure education in the mother tongue. It was also agreed to revise how the history of Ukraine is presented in Bulgarian textbooks, with the aim of providing a balanced presentation of the history of both countries.

The two ministers signed a protocol that guarantees education in the Bulgarian language for students of Bulgarian origin in Ukraine and discussed the deployment of Bulgarian teachers in Ukraine.

The initiatives also include the introduction of the Ukrainian language as a foreign language in Bulgarian schools, as well as the expansion of cooperation between universities in the field of research and academic exchanges.
