Three children, aged six months, one year, and four years, were found alone in their hotel room at Holiday World Resort in Benalmádena, Spain. The British parents, a 41-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were arrested and charged with child abandonment. According to reports, the baby tested positive for cocaine at a hospital in Málaga, although the parents did not acknowledge this.
The two received suspended prison sentences of one and a half years and were stripped of their right to see their children for two years. Authorities found emergency foster families for the children, who are now under the care of the social services of the Regional Government of Andalusia. The parents will not be able to exercise parental authority for two years and will not be allowed to approach the children within 500 meters. The National Police in Málaga has involved a specialized unit in this case, and the children are set to be transferred to the UK.
