The British royal family will ditch its 1842 train, opting for helicopters to cut costs. The train will be decommissioned in 2026.

King Charles III's treasurer has announced that the British royal family will scrap the royal train, a centuries-old tradition, for reasons of economy and modernization. The train, which will be retired in 2026, was first used by Queen Victoria in 1842. The royal family will now use two helicopters for travel. The decision is part of a strategy of fiscal discipline amid criticism over royal funding and public subsidies.
