Brazil has launched a new national climate plan, the first since 2008, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 67% by 2035, compared to 2005 levels. The main strategy of this plan is the protection of forests, essential for combating climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil are largely caused by illegal deforestation, which accounts for 40% of the total, especially for the expansion of agricultural land. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has committed to halting deforestation by 2030. Additionally, deforestation in the Amazon has decreased by 35% between August 2025 and January 2026, highlighting Brazil's efforts to play a key role in the global fight against climate change.
