Bergamo airport has been temporarily closed after a man died on the runway when he stepped onto the runway operational area during the take-off of an airplane.

The incident occurred when a man walked onto the runway at Bergamo airport, causing flights to be suspended between 10:20 and 12:00. The man apparently acted intentionally, wanting to take his own life, and was sucked into the engine of a Volotea airplane taking off. The Italian authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and how the man managed to bypass airport security.
