Judge Bart Willocx, the president of the Court of Appeal in Antwerp, stated that Belgium is facing a major danger due to drug trafficking, which threatens social stability. The port of Antwerp, a key point for the introduction of drugs into Europe, has become a fertile ground for mafia groups. Willocx emphasized that the large sums of money involved in corruption and bribery represent a real threat.

In 2023, Belgium confiscated a record amount of cocaine, which has led to an increase in violence and crime. Judges and prosecutors have reported threats and acts of violence against them, and security measures for magistrates have been intensified. Belgian authorities acknowledge the problem but have not implemented sufficient reforms to combat this alarming situation.
