Theo Francken, the Belgian Minister of Defense, stated that NATO would react extremely severely in the event of a missile attack from Russia on Brussels, saying that "we will wipe Moscow off the face of the Earth." In an interview, he emphasized that an attack on the Belgian capital would strike at the heart of NATO, thus activating the mutual defense clause, Article 5. Although he is not afraid of a conventional attack, Francken mentioned that he is more concerned about the use of hybrid warfare by Russia. He reaffirmed support for U.S. leadership within NATO and emphasized that Putin would not dare to launch an attack on Brussels.
