An autonomous bus was involved in an accident with a tram in the center of Gothenburg, Sweden, on the first day it was transporting passengers. According to Vasttrafik, the regional public transport company, the bus, which operates fully electric and without a driver, braked before being hit from behind by the tram. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the collision.

The bus has been taken out of service for inspection. Although the autonomous bus began operating in the center of Gothenburg in March, this was its first day of testing with passengers. The bus has dimensions and speed similar to those of a regular bus and is equipped with a driver who can take control if necessary. Currently, autonomous vehicles in Europe require local authorizations to operate, and the European Union has not yet issued authorizations for their commercial implementation.
