The Eris rocket, developed by Gilmour Space Technologies, was launched from Queensland on a test flight, but crashed just 14 seconds after liftoff. It was the first attempt to launch an Australian orbital vehicle designed to carry small satellites. There were no casualties, and the company had previously experienced delays due to technical problems. Gilmour recently received a government development grant of A$5 million.
