This meeting takes place against the backdrop of increasing Chinese control over the global supply of rare minerals. Albanese, who traveled to Washington together with his resources minister, will also discuss nuclear submarines, trade, and stability in the Indo-Pacific. The Trump administration is reviewing the AUKUS treaty, which provides for the acquisition of American nuclear submarines by Australia. Australian officials are confident that AUKUS will continue, with Australia contributing 2 billion dollars to support the production of American submarines. Michael Fullilove, director of the Lowy Institute, emphasized the importance of establishing a cooperative relationship between the two leaders.
