The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced an initial investment of over 2 billion euros for the construction of a naval base dedicated to nuclear-powered submarines, according to the Aukus pact signed in 2021 between the USA, the United Kingdom, and Australia. This investment aims to limit China's influence in the Pacific and has led to the cancellation of a major contract with France for submarines.

The initial investment of 3.9 billion Australian dollars is considered essential for equipping Australia with nuclear submarines armed with conventional weapons. In the long term, the total cost of the project could reach 30 billion Australian dollars, and the acquisition of American submarines will begin in 2032.

The agreement also includes the joint development of military technologies, with a total estimated cost of 200 billion euros over the next 30 years.
