Asghar Farhadi, known for his award-winning films, denounced civilian victims during a press conference in Cannes, where he presented his film "Histoires parallèles". Farhadi highlighted "two tragic events": the Israeli-American bombings that led to the death of many civilians, including children, and the massacre of protesters by the Islamic Republic in January.
He stated that he cannot accept the loss of human lives, whether in war or through executions or reprisals against demonstrators. Iran has been in conflict with Israel and the United States since February, and a fragile ceasefire was established in April. Farhadi mentioned that, according to the Iranian government, 3,000 people have died during the protests, but human rights organizations estimate a much higher number of casualties. Iranian directors face strict censorship, and many have been arrested or exiled.
