On Wednesday, authorities in Kashmir, India, announced the arrest of several suspects in the investigation regarding the explosion on Monday, which occurred near the historic Red Fort monument, resulting in the death of eight people and injuring several others. The investigation is considered a case of terrorism, granting authorities extensive powers of detention. The federal cabinet labeled the explosion a "heinous terrorist incident," without providing further details.
Red Fort, an important historical symbol, could be the scene of the most severe attack of this type since 2011. Following the explosion, police detained at least five people in raids in the Pulwama district, and a suspected militant cell was dismantled.
