On Monday, federal agents opened fire on an armed man in downtown Washington DC, near the National Mall, a popular tourist area. The incident occurred after the motorcade of Vice President JD Vance passed by, but authorities do not believe he was targeted.
Matthew Quinn, deputy director of the Secret Service, stated that a connection between this incident and recent threats against President Donald Trump cannot be confirmed. The man, who was considered a suspect, fled and opened fire on the agents, who returned fire, injuring him. He was transported to the hospital, and his health status is unknown.
Additionally, a minor was injured during the incident, which comes just ten days after an assassination attempt on the president. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
