On Wednesday evening, violent clashes erupted between anti-government protesters and supporters of President Aleksandar Vucic in Serbia, marking an escalation of tensions after nine months of demonstrations. In the city of Novi Sad, Vucic's supporters used flares against the protesters, who responded by vandalizing the offices of the Serbian Progressive Party. Police intervened, using tear gas in Belgrade and separating the two camps in other cities. The protests have been fueled by the incidents in Vrbas, and Vucic is accused of curtailing democratic freedoms.
