About 30 protesters entered the headquarters of Informer TV in Belgrade on Monday evening. The station is close to former President Aleksandar Vučić. They interrupted broadcasts to demand the arrest of the television’s editor-in-chief and owner, Dragan Vučićević. The incident took place a day after historic elections in which the “Students’ List,” backed by the student-led anti-corruption movement, reportedly ousted Vučić after 14 years of political dominance.
Protesters surrounded Vučićević during a live broadcast and chanted messages including “This is what things look like in a free Serbia” and “Where is Vučić now?”. The former president described the action as an attack on freedom of expression and journalism.
That same evening, tens of thousands of people took to the streets across Serbia for the second consecutive night, celebrating the election result. The lead candidate of the students’ list, cardiologist Ilija Srdanovic, called for calm and rejected any form of violence.
The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia announced that it would seek the revocation of Informer TV’s license, alleging systematic violations of the law. Another station favorable to Vučić, Pink TV, was also surrounded by protesters. Meanwhile, public broadcaster RTV apologized for reports considered one-sided and uncritical. Serbia ranks 104th out of 180 in the 2026 press freedom index compiled by Reporters Without Borders.
