Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has revisited some controversial statements regarding the war in Ukraine, clarifying that she does not blame Poland and the Baltic states for Russia's aggression. In a recent interview, Merkel explained that her previous statements were taken out of context and that she did not intend to assign blame to these states. She emphasized that the war in Ukraine is an aggression by the Russian Federation and that no one could have prevented this conflict.

Merkel mentioned that the coronavirus pandemic severely affected the formats of dialogue with Russia, making regular meetings with Putin impossible. She also dismissed claims by former Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, who suggested that the war would not have occurred if Merkel had still been in power, considering them speculative. Merkel emphasized the importance of continued support for Ukraine from Europe.
