Amazon announced on Wednesday that it will cut approximately 16,000 corporate positions, marking the second wave of layoffs following the 14,000 cuts in October 2022. The company aims to improve organizational efficiency by reducing hierarchical levels and eliminating bureaucracy. These measures are part of a broader strategy to redirect resources towards investments in artificial intelligence and the necessary infrastructure. Amazon has warned that cuts will continue into 2026 as it identifies new areas for optimization. At the end of the third quarter, the company had 1.58 million employees, mostly in logistics. The layoffs are part of an effort to transform Amazon into a leaner organization, with the goal of increasing efficiency and responding to market demands. CEO Andy Jassy emphasized that AI efficiency will reduce the need for staff in traditional functions but will create demand for new roles.
