The al-Qaeda affiliate in Yemen announced the death of its leader Khalid Batarfi, without disclosing the cause of death.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has released footage of its leader's funeral, with his body wrapped in a flag bearing the jihadist organization's name. Batarfi was declared an international terrorist by the United States in 2018. Al-Rimi, his predecessor, was killed in a US attack in Yemen. Aqpa has appointed Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki as its new leader.
