Ajax Amsterdam has decided to dismiss coach John Heitinga after a disappointing start to the season, which included four consecutive defeats in the Champions League. Fred Grim will temporarily take over the team's management, and assistant coach Marcel Keizer will also leave the club. Technical director Alex Kroes announced that he will resign from his position before the expiration of his contract if a suitable replacement is found.
Ajax has won only five of the 11 matches played in Eredivisie, currently sitting in fourth place in the standings, but is at the bottom of the Champions League. Kroes mentioned that the decision was difficult but necessary, considering the lack of progress of the team. Heitinga, a former Ajax player, had an interim role in 2023 and returned to the club at the beginning of this season.
