French actress, writer and singer Marina Vlady died on Thursday at the age of 88, at home, surrounded by her family and animals, the artist’s children told AFP, with the information reported by France Info.

Marina Vlady, born Marina de Poliakoff-Baidaroff on May 10, 1938, in Clichy, made her mark on French cinema from her teenage years. She was discovered at 16 in the film Avant le déluge, directed by André Cayatte, and later acted alongside performers including Robert Hossein, Orson Welles and Jean Yanne.

One of the most important moments of her career came in 1963, when she received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Le Lit conjugal, directed by Marco Ferreri. Her best-known films include La Princesse de Clèves, The Witch and The Nameless Star, in which she played the character Mona.

Beginning in the 1990s, Vlady devoted herself more to theater and writing, while continuing to act in French and Italian productions. She was the sister of actresses Odile Versois, Hélène Vallier and Olga Baïdar-Poliakoff. Her personal life was marked by her marriages to Robert Hossein, Vladimir Vysotsky and physician Leon Schwartzenberg.
