A 7.4 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale occurred Thursday morning, off the coast of the city of Ternate, Indonesia, causing panic among authorities who issued a tsunami warning. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake took place at 7:48 local time (1:48 Romania time) and was recorded at a depth of 35 km. Initially, the magnitude was estimated at 7.8, but it was later revised. The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 120 km from Ternate, a city with a population of over 205,000 residents. The American tsunami warning system announced that dangerous waves are possible within a radius of 1,000 km from the epicenter, affecting the coasts of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Authorities are on alert and monitoring the situation to prevent potential damage.
