The earthquake occurred at a depth of 69 kilometers, near the municipality of Dapa, in the province of Surigao del Norte. So far, no material damage or casualties have been reported, according to rescue teams. Ralph Cadalena, a local rescuer, described the tremor as strong but short-lived.

This seismic event comes a week after two other strong earthquakes in the region, with magnitudes of 7.4 and 6.7, which resulted in the deaths of at least eight people. The Philippines, located on the "Ring of Fire" of the Pacific, frequently experiences earthquakes due to intense tectonic activity.
