The authorities in Bordeaux have imposed disembarkation restrictions for 1,233 passengers and 514 crew members from the British vessel Ambition, after 49 suspected cases of gastroenteritis were reported. The ship, which mainly carried British and Irish citizens, arrived from Belfast and Liverpool. The regional health authority stated that there is no evidence that this outbreak is linked to a reported hantavirus outbreak on another luxury vessel. Hygiene measures have been intensified, and shore excursions have been canceled. A 92-year-old British passenger died of a heart attack, but this incident is not associated with the gastroenteritis outbreak. Gastroenteritis, known as stomach flu, causes vomiting and diarrhea, is contagious, but usually not severe.
