25 soldiers have been sentenced to death in Congo on charges of "fleeing the enemy" during fighting with M23 rebels.

The trial took place in a mobile court at the Butembo military garrison. M23 rebels, backed by Rwanda, have taken control of several towns in North Kivu province. The Congolese army's dismay at this advance led to the arrest of several soldiers on charges of "complicity with the enemy".
